Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 3, 2026

Introduction

At ColorBreak, we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our iOS application and browser extension (collectively, "the Services"). Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the Services.

Our Privacy-First Approach

ColorBreak is designed with privacy as a core principle. We believe that digital wellbeing tools should not come at the cost of your privacy. Therefore:

  • We do not track your browsing history
  • We do not collect personal identification information unless explicitly provided
  • All app settings and preferences are stored locally on your device
  • Location data (if used) is processed locally and never transmitted to our servers
  • We do not sell or share your data with third parties

Information We Collect

iOS App

Information Stored Locally:

  • App-specific exceptions list (which apps should display in color)
  • Schedule preferences (when to enable/disable grayscale)
  • Location-based rules (stored locally, not transmitted)
  • Usage statistics (stored locally for your personal analytics)
  • User preferences and settings

Optional Data Collection:

  • Crash Reports: If you opt-in, anonymous crash reports may be sent to help us improve app stability
  • Analytics: If you opt-in, we may collect anonymous usage statistics to improve the app (no personal information included)

Browser Extension

Information Stored Locally:

  • Website whitelist (domains that should display in color)
  • Extension settings and preferences
  • Keyboard shortcut configurations
  • Basic usage statistics (stored locally)

Permissions Required:

  • Active Tab: To apply grayscale filters to the current website
  • Storage: To save your preferences and whitelist locally
  • All Sites (Optional): Required to apply grayscale across all websites you visit

The browser extension does NOT:

  • Track which websites you visit
  • Read or collect your browsing history
  • Access personal information from websites
  • Transmit any data to external servers

How We Use Your Information

The minimal data we collect is used solely to:

  • Provide core functionality of the Services
  • Remember your preferences and settings
  • Generate local usage statistics for your personal use
  • Improve app stability and performance (if you opt-in to crash reporting)
  • Understand general usage patterns to improve the Services (if you opt-in to analytics)

Data Storage and Security

All your preferences, settings, and data are stored locally on your device using secure storage mechanisms provided by iOS (Keychain and UserDefaults) and browser APIs (localStorage and chrome.storage). This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it for backup purposes.

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Location Data (iOS App)

If you choose to use location-based rules, ColorBreak will request access to your location. This data is:

  • Processed entirely on your device
  • Never transmitted to our servers or any third party
  • Used only to determine when to automatically enable/disable grayscale based on your defined locations
  • Can be disabled at any time in iOS Settings

We use Apple's Core Location framework with the minimum necessary permissions. Location data is only accessed when the app is in use or when you've specifically configured background location for automatic grayscale switching.

Third-Party Services

ColorBreak uses minimal third-party services:

  • Apple App Store: For app distribution and in-app purchases (subject to Apple's Privacy Policy)
  • Browser Extension Stores: For extension distribution (subject to respective store policies)

We do not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services by default. Any optional analytics are clearly disclosed and require explicit opt-in.

Children's Privacy

ColorBreak does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or applicable age in your jurisdiction). The Services are designed to be used by individuals of all ages, but we do not target children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@colorbreak.app.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access: Request access to the data we have about you (though we store minimal data locally on your device)
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your data by uninstalling the app or extension and deleting local data
  • Opt-Out: Opt-out of any optional data collection features
  • Data Portability: Export your settings and preferences at any time

Since most data is stored locally on your device, you have direct control over it. You can delete all data by uninstalling the app or extension.

Data Retention

Your data is retained locally on your device for as long as you have the app or extension installed. When you uninstall ColorBreak, all locally stored data is automatically deleted by the operating system or browser.

If you've opted into crash reporting or analytics, anonymous aggregated data may be retained for up to 12 months to help us improve the Services.

International Data Transfers

Since ColorBreak processes all data locally on your device, there are no international data transfers. Any optional telemetry data (if you opt-in) may be processed in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • Right to know what personal information is collected
  • Right to know whether personal information is sold or disclosed
  • Right to opt-out of the sale of personal information (we don't sell data)
  • Right to deletion of personal information
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising your rights

To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@colorbreak.app.

European Privacy Rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have certain data protection rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):

  • Right of access to your personal data
  • Right to rectification of inaccurate data
  • Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
  • Right to restrict processing
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to object to processing
  • Rights related to automated decision-making

Our legal basis for processing is your consent and our legitimate interest in providing the Services. You may withdraw consent at any time.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. For significant changes, we may provide additional notice through the app or extension.

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
